Welcome to Hashtagflash where I hope to inspire you and help you take better photos and choose and use the best kit to help you do it. I’m Adam Duckworth, an award-winning professional photographer and videographer based in the UK. I live in Northamptonshire but travel nationally and internationally for work. This site is my personal views and test on kit I use, the photos I take and hopefully how you can learn and take better photos too!
I’m not paid by any manufacturer to undertake reviews. I know what I like and I aim to be honest, truthful and informative. But it’s all my opinion, based on using lots of stuff over the years in the real world. I’m an ambassador for Manfrotto but am not paid for this role. I just use lots of their stuff and it works well, and has suited me for years. I’m also a big user of Elinchrom lighting kit, and the same applies. Also I extensively use Pocket Wizards, plus Nikon, Phase One, Leica, Sony and lots more kit that I rate. Like Lee and Hoya Filters, Schneider lenses and lots more. I’m not paid directly by anyone to endorse their products. I sometimes appear at shows or events on their behalf to evangelise about their kit I already use, but I strive to remain unbiased and objective at all times. I just like cool photo kit as it helps me take better photos! Yes, I’m a gear head – but only if it helps me take better photos which is what it’s all about. And to have fun taking them, because when you’re having fun and have confidence in your kit, you are free to really focus on what matters – a great shot.
I have worked for many top magazines, newspapers and corporate clients for more than 25 years and am available for commercial, advertising and editorial commissions. I just love taking pictures and it’s an honour to make a living doing something so creative and fun.
I’ve been relatively successful over the years, and was named SWPP UK Commercial Photographer of the Year, I’m an Associate of the British Institute of Professional Photography and have been exhibited in Tokyo and London.
Commercial clients I have worked for include Red Bull, Monster Energy, Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Rolls-Royce, the Royal Horticultural Society for Saatchi & Saatchi, the BBC, the National Youth Arts of Wales, the University of Glamorgan, Manfrotto, Lastolite and many more. I’ve shot photos of lots of talented people, from prime ministers to film stars and lots of sporting heroes. Photography really does open a window to allow you to rub shoulders with some amazing people and shoot great things like the London 2012 Olympics.
I have also worked for international publications like FHM, Zoo, Motor Cycle News, Racer X, The Sunday Times, The Guardian, ZOO, Golf World, Today’s Golfer, Mountain Bike Action, EVO, Octane, Boards and Scoot Nation, among others. And I often contribute to top photo magazines worldwide including Photo Professional, Pro Moviemaker, Amateur Photographer, Practical Photography, N-Photo and have been featured in many international photography publications. I started as a pure photographer then became a trained writer, and have edited and worked in publishing all my life, seeing the photo business from all sides of the fence. I was chief photographer for AbFab Wedding photography for eight years and ran my own portrait studio, so have a well-rounded business sense too, that I can hopefully pass on to you. I have authored three photography books, available on Amazon. The Field Guide to Flash Photography is one I’m most proud of and it’s great value! Download it from my publishers Ilex or buy from Amazon!
I’m available for commissions for magazine and corporate work, as well as private commissions. Or to talk at your event or camera club. And I’m also available for running workshops or seminars, or training either one-to-one or small groups. Just contact me via the contact page. And check my main website here!
